OptiFaaS — benchmarking serverless platforms
OptiFaaS is a DFG-funded research project of TU Berlin and TU Dortmund. It asks how Function-as-a-Service workloads can be placed and scheduled across cloud, edge and fog so that they meet their latency, cost and privacy goals, taking data locality and cold starts into account.
My part was the experimental side: I designed and developed event-driven, distributed software prototypes in Java, deployed them with Docker on Linux, AWS Lambda and Google Cloud Functions, and ran benchmarking experiments to measure scalability, concurrency and performance. I coordinated with the external project partners and onboarded and supervised a student research assistant.
Results
- Event-driven prototypes on two cloud FaaS platforms
- Benchmarking experiments with analysed results
- Supervised a student research assistant
